Oral Cancer Screening
An oral cancer screening is used to detect cancerous and pre-cancerous conditions in the oral cavity. This helps in early detection and treatment of oral cancer before it causes irreversible harm to the mouth and body. At Dental Crown in an Hour, we perform oral cancer screenings as a part of the regular dental checkups conducted for all patients at our clinic.
Research shows that people who use tobacco or smoke or drink a lot are at a higher risk of developing the disease. Recently, it has also been found that the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is transmitted by sexual contact, is associated with cancers of the mouth and throat. In fact, HPV is known to be an increasing cause of oral cancer cases in non-smoking adults.
During the course of your oral cancer screening, our dental experts will talk to you about the history of your health and will examine your mouth, lips, teeth and throat for any abnormalities. The examination will be performed visually as well as by touching and feeling different areas of the mouth. In case anything suspicious is found, we will perform a simple brush test to take a sample tissue from your mouth and send it to a lab for testing. If the test results are atypical or positive, we may conduct a biopsy.
