Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Your wisdom teeth are the third molars and the last set of permanent teeth in the mouth that erupt around the age of twenty years. At Dental Crown in an Hour, we suggest the extraction of wisdom teeth for the following cases:
- If there is not enough room in the mouth so that the wisdom teeth cannot fully erupt and are trapped below the gum tissue by bone or other teeth.
- If the eruption of the wisdom teeth causes misalignment in the other teeth since the jaw may be too small to hold them.
The above abnormalities could cause discomfort and swelling in the oral cavity and can also affect your bite and enhance the chances of occurrence of periodontal disease. Therefore, extraction is the best option in such cases. Non-Surgical extractions are performed for wisdom teeth that have fully erupted through the gum. For teeth that have not erupted fully or are impacted, a surgical extraction needs to be performed.
Before starting the procedure, local anesthesia is administered to numb the site. General anesthesia may be given to prevent pain in the mouth and whole body if all four wisdom teeth are being extracted at once. In case the tooth being removed is impacted, an incision is made in the gum and any bone over the tooth is removed. The tissue connecting the bone and tooth is separated and then the tooth is removed. Sometimes, the tooth may have to be cut into smaller pieces for easier removal. A gauze pad is placed at the extraction site to prevent bleeding.
At Dental Crown in an Hour, we perform painless and comfortable extractions for wisdom teeth and also offer sedation dentistry options for patients who suffer from dental fear or anxiety.
